Retro Runners - The Endless Run for iOS is a straightforward pixel game about jumping hurdles and running like Forest Gump, minus the A-List stars and intriguing plot. This one is sure to entertain for a little while, before the 6-pack runs dry and you run for the uninstall button.
Retro Runners - The Endless Run is truly an endless run, and that's not necessarily a good thing. The app presents in landscape mode to deliver a highly crude and pixelated track and field environment, only, this is no track anyone has ever seen in the Olympics before. Your mission, is to run a retro looking 70's guy down a track populated with the occasional bathing partiers right in the middle of your lane; grab water from helpers on the sidelines, dodge runners going the wrong way, and try not to get blinded by photographer's flashbulbs. The play is very one-dimensional, with little longevity or replay value.
The controls are as simplistic as the plot. Just tap the screen to jump, and swipe left or right to change lanes. The controls functioned well, there just wasn't much worth controlling. The graphics and animation go for pseudo retro gaming, however, I don't remember anything in my childhood arcade looking this bad. The sounds are of the blip-blop variety, and as such, were thoroughly annoying.
Retro Runners - The Endless Run is decent fun for a few minutes but quickly loses its luster. My advice: run for the hills.
