Phases for iOS aims to drive you mad with simple play and frustrating mechanics. Bounce a white ball through a side-scrolling maze and look out for the black pixels. This one has a high replay value.
Phases is a rarity in the replay gaming world; it’s actually fun and playable. The app presents in landscape mode to deliver a simple, rudimentary, side-scrolling puzzler of sorts. Your mission, is to bounce a white pixel ball through a maze populated with black jaggy pixels that make you pop on impact. Peppered throughout the maze are safe zones where you can land and catch a breath to strategize, but other than that, it’s kind of non-stop. Just bound and bounce as far as you can before going pop. There are several checkpoints built into the play so you can restart from there on subsequent plays.
The controls are of the one finger variety and all you gotta do is touch and hold the screen anywhere to make the ball advance. The longer you touch, the longer the bounce. Accuracy and precision play heavily in this one, and the controls were effective. The graphics are very basic, but nicely done and pleasing to the eye. The animation was smooth with quality renders. The sounds were minimal but entertaining.
Phases is actually quite fun and addictive. Replay and arcade gaming fans are sure to like this one.
