KingsRoad for iOS is a tried and true RPG fantasy quest. Save the kingdom from evil enemies up to no good. Be the hero, and save the day. Fantasy gaming fans are sure to love this one, even though the premise and presentation are solid retreads with few original elements.
KingsRoad presents in landscape mode to depict a renaissance fantasy kingdom, as seen from an aerial point of view looking down on the action below. The kingdom is in trouble, and naturally, you're the only one who can save the day. Set out on a mission to find the sword, grab the loot, and make short work of an array of menacing and evil meanies out to wreak havoc on all that is good and wholesome. To explore your kingdom, all you need do is touch the screen where you want your hero to go, and he's off and running. Along the way, you'll encounter beasts and bad guys to combat and conquer, and battles mostly happen on autopilot. Just tap the bad guy you want to attack and your hero goes after him relentlessly until he's dead. It's you against multiple enemies at once, so you gotta be on your toes and watch your health meter too. There are some cool weaponry options to find and earn along the way too.
The controls just use screen taps to bring on the thunder, and all worked well. The graphics are actually quite good. But the details are lost to distant views and non-existent zoom controls that keep your at a distance from all the action you are meant to enjoy. The animation is decent, but fairly crude. The sounds offered some basic punctuation to the play, but added little intrigue.
KingsRoad is a competent game, but offers little new or novel to captivate or hold interest. This one is playable, just not all that original.
