Imperium Galactica 2 for iOS aims to re-brand this popular computer game of the 90's as a newfangled app, and for the most part, it fails miserably. This app has loads of potential, thanks to its strong gaming roots. However, they should scrap the whole thing, go back to the drawing board, and remake everything from the ground up. Simply put, don't waste your time or money.
Imperium Galactica 2 quite proudly calls itself a classic from the golden era of gaming. Well, the golden era of gaming spans back a lot farther than 1997, my friends. And therein lies the trouble with this app right form the start: it thinks far too much of itself and is nowhere near as good as its narcissistic and lofty view of its place in gaming history. The app presents in landscape mode to deliver a hugely dated and dry interface, hence why this one only plays on iPad and requires iOS 5 or less; it's just that dull and dry. The game features some interesting elements that hold a lot of promise, but falls absolutely flat on its face to deliver on none of it. The app is virtually unplayable, deathly boring, and an utter waste of time and money. I can't say it any more plainly than that.
The controls are absolute rubbish, employing screen taps that rarely registered the first time. The graphics are almost decent, but little more than a series of still images. The animation is riveting, if you like watching text scroll. The sounds, well, does it really matter when a game sucks this bad?
Imperium Galactica 2 makes virtually zero effort to contemporize itself for the modern gaming world in which we live. Which begs the question: why bother making a newfangled app if you're not going to take the effort to deliver a game worth playing? Oh, that's because this game always sucked. Ok, now I get it.
