Dustoff Vietnam for iOS is a pixelated retro game of the highest caliber. Fly a cool military chopper and save troops from behind enemy lines, then land back at home base. This one is loads of fun and far too short.
Dustoff Vietnam is very MineCraft in its presentation. The look is highly blocky, but the play remains sophisticated and refined. Take note, retro developers, this is what a quality pixel game looks like. So, as the story goes, it's just another day in Vietnam during that, oh so popular, war. You are a helicopter pilot stationed at a military base, and your mission is to liftoff, fly over this lush jungle, look for the plumes of red smoke, then touchdown and pick up a team of foot soldiers and take them back to base camp. The play is simple, dynamic, and loads of fun. I loved the simulated chopper flight and the challenging takeoffs and landings.
The controls use two fingers to bring on the fun. All you gotta do is press and hold the left and right sides of the screen at the same time to takeoff, then throttle your touch to land. To veer left and right, just remove one of your fingers from the screen to head off in the appropriate direction, then touch both fingers back onscreen to stabilize your flight path. It's very sophisticated, yet simple and effective. The graphics and animation are decent, for Lego pixel sorta stuff. The sounds effectively rounded out the play nicely.
Dustoff Vietnam is outstanding fun for gamers of all ages and skill levels. It's challenging, captivating and just flat out cool. Are you downloading yet?
